Transportation to and from Newark, New Jersey

Here is rough information about transportation to and from Newark (Here is the Rutgers - Newark Campus Map)

By air: Three major airports service the Newark area: Newark Liberty International Airport, JFK Airport and LaGuardia. Newark Airport is the closest and, is, therefore, recommended, but JFK and LaGuardia. The Robert Treat provides free transportation to and from Newark airport and the Gateway Hilton may also, in any case it is a 10 minute train ride.

By Train: Both NJ Transit and Amtrack service Newark Penn Station Newark. The Gateway Hilton is at Newark Penn Station, the Robert Treat Hotel is five minutes away. The Rutgers-Newark Campus is 10 minutes from Newark Penn Station. There is a second train station in Newark, the Erie Lackawana station. It is also 10 minutes from campus and the hotels, but in a different direction. NJ transit commuter trains stop here and at Penn Station in NYC and in Hoboken, NJ.

By PATH: There are PATH trains from various locations in NYC to Newark. Depending upon the location, these trains take about 15 minutes.

By Car: Newark is easily accessible from the NJ Turnpike and from the Garden State Parkway and route I-280.

Parking: You can park your car at the campus parking lot. There is a small fee for on campus parking vouchers. Vouchers will be mailed to you upon request and will also be available at the registration desk (but you will need to park before you register). If you expect to need day-time parking, please e-mail a request and the number of days to ab2008@andromeda.rutgers.edu.

An easy way to the Ahlfors-Bers Colloquium from New York City

Take NY city subway to either 34th street (cross 6th ave) or the World Trade Center, and then transfer to the NY-NJ Path to Journal Square or Newark. If you take the PATH at 34th street, then you will transfer to the PATH train from WTC to Newark at Journal Square Station. It takes about 35 minutes from 34th street to Newark and 20 minutes from WTC to Newark.

The station in Newark is the Newark Penn Station. It costs only another subway token, you can simply use the NY city subway metro card. The PATH trains run very often during traffic hours, like 3 to 5 minutes gap, but in the weekends it takes a slight different route for the train from 34th street to Journal Square, it goes through Hoboken.
(In weekdays, there is a separate line going to Hobeken.)

At Newark Penn Station, ask people around how to take a local subway to Rutgers-Newark campus, it costs about 65 cents and takes 3 minutes to the campus. From there, you can easily walk to the conference rooms in a few minutes. Here is the Rutgers - Newark Campus Map for the direction for the walk.
